AFLO FEST - Saturday, June 22, 2024 〡 2pm - 9pm
Come out for our first music festival—a celebration of American music, farming, and inclusive community. This casual, family-friendly event will feature bluegrass and American roots music in the heart of Western Loudoun County, on our co-founders’ land in Purcellville, Virginia. Fill your belly with comfort food & drink from local food truck vendors, vineyards and breweries. Fill your soul with music. Our Growers will also be on hand to sell concessions as well as our famous AFLO swag. So bring your blanket, or some chairs, kids if you have ‘em, and we will see you there!
Musicians Scheduled to Perform:
Justin Trawick and The Common Good are a touring Americana group consisting of four friends who have been performing together since 2006. They use traditional Americana instrumentation and bend the genre to fit a modern, unique sound that they’ve cultivated over 18 years, playing bluegrass, country, folk and old-time music. The band has performed at the Kingman Island Bluegrass Festival, Appaloosa Roots Music Festival, Floyd Yoga Jam, TedxEast in NYC at the City Winery and TedxPennsylvaniaAvenue in DC. They have opened for Suzanne Vega, Wyclef Jean, Brett Dennen, Blues Traveler, Enter The Haggis, Bob Schneider, & Edwin McCain, & shared bills with Dr. Dogg and The Avett Brothers.
The Short Hill Mountain Boys play their own blend of bluegrass, old-time, cajun, classic country, and folk music with a rare passion. Their harmony vocals, fiddling, and guitar picking are tight and practiced like the suit-and-cowboy-hat bluegrass acts, but imbued with the authenticity, spontaneity, and infectious good time of old time mountain music, in which they are well steeped. The Short Hill Mountain Boys' love of the music and skilled musicianship makes converts of audiences new to the genre and is sure to draw and impress aficionados.
The Furnace Mountain Trio includes Aimee Curl on bass, Dave "Fiddlin' Dave" Van Deventer, and Morgan Morrison on bouzouki. Furnace Mountain is sure to be lively and raucous, sometimes poignant and poetic, serving up sublime vocal harmonies, spirited fiddle melodies and powerful bass and bouzouki rhythms on some of the oldest American songs ever written. Furnace Mountain has graced stages both domestically and internationally, from the Yangtze River in China to the Shenandoah River in their home state, where they host the Watermelon Park Fest annually.
Josh Grigsby and County Line is a bluegrass band based out of the beautiful Northern Neck of Virginia. They play traditional, contemporary, original & gospel bluegrass with a big dose of fun! They were also the 2015 Virginia State Bluegrass Band Champions. Band members are Crystal Grigsby (vocals), Bob Burrows (resonator guitar, vocals), Bob Brooke (Upright Bass), Daniel Madison (Banjo) and, of course, Josh Grigsby on guitar and lead vocals.
Ken Wenzel & Cross Kentucky is a six-piece roots-rock/Americana band, made up of some of the best musicians in the greater DC/MD/VA area. Between pedal steelist Bobby Birdsong’s swelling lines, lead singer Ken Wenzel’s saxophone solos, and guitarist Mark Williams’ carving leads, Cross Kentucky bridge the gap between classic and modern rock & alt-country. Rounded out with organ/keyboardist Dave Mallen, bassist Patrick Thornton, and drummer Ben Tufts, we’re equally at home carving out a twang, stretching out over a solo, or delivering melodic, rocking original songs that leave audiences yelling for more.
Moose Jaw Bluegrass is rooted in the high lonesome sound of the 1940’s - sullied by an affinity for cheap brews, swampy southern rock anthems, and stamped with an outlaw country attitude: Moose Jaw brings the timeless tradition of American roots music into a new era. They focus on putting a new spin on the old-time tales of ramblers, rovers, and revivals has led them to be featured on National Public Radio and an intimate performance for his Holiness the Dalai Lama. Since 2016, audiences from all walks of life have hooted and hollered at Moose Jaw’s blazing fast, workin’ class, and often crass brand of bluegrass.
